Protecta® AR 100 Type X with Mold Defense®

Lafarge Protecta AR® 100 Type X with Mold Defense® is an abuse-resistant drywall consisting of a fiberglass-enhanced, noncombustible, high-density gypsum core with a reinforced, heavy-facing paper that guards against surface abrasion, indentation, mold and mildew.

Protecta AR 100 is designed for use in applications that require direct mechanical attachment to wood or metal framing, or as a component of fire-rated assemblies.

 

To ensure optimal Type X fire-resistant performance, follow recommended installation procedures. When used in a certified sound-rated assembly, Protecta AR 100 will also contribute to required Sound Transmission Class (STC) values.

 

The ivory facing paper will accommodate a wide variety of decorative treatments after proper surface preparation.

 

Mold Defense:

Mold Defense offers enhanced protection against mold and mildew growth compared to ordinary drywall products. Under controlled testing conditions, Mold Defense achieved an average panel score of 10 out of a possible 10 using ASTM D 3273.

 

Lafarge Mold Defense products comply with the treated-article exemption of FIFRA (the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act) as determined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA

 

Note: Protecta AR 100 Type X with Mold Defense is only suitable for interior applications and should not be used in places where temperatures exceed 125 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time, or in areas of extreme humidity. The board should be protected from exposure to adverse conditions during storage and construction.

 

Protecta AR 100 Type X with Mold Defense is not intended to be used as a ceramic tile wall backing in wet areas or in floor underlayment.

Physical Characteristics:

 

Core: Noncombustible, dimensionally stable, inert gypsum enhanced with glass fibers for strength and fire resistance.

Paper: 100 percent recycled. Abuse, mold and mildew resistant. Front and edges are ivory; back is gray.

Edge type: Tapered.

Emissions: Asbestos free; GREENGUARD certified; listed as a low-emitting material with the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS); MAS certified green.

 

Applications:

Protecta AR 100 Type X with Mold Defense is designed for use in interior areas where a higher resistance to abrasion, indentation and impact penetration is required. Applicable areas include:

Advantages:

 

High abuse resistance: Protecta AR 100 Type X with Mold Defense offers greater indentation and abrasion resistance than regular drywall products, which reduces costs associated with maintenance and replacement.

Low installation cost: Compared with block construction, Protecta AR 100 Type X with Mold Defense installs easily and quickly. It cuts and snaps like standard drywall.

Fire resistance: Protecta AR 100 Type X with Mold Defense is formulated to perform in accordance with ASTM C 1396, Section 5, and C 36, Type X, and is UL labeled (Type LGFC6A).

Mold resistance: Protecta AR 100 Type X with Mold Defense provides enhanced protection against the growth of mold and mildew.

Helping New Florida Home Achieve LEED Platinum

In pursuit of becoming certified LEED® Platinum and net-zero, this green home in Miami Beach, Florida is using Lafarge Weather Defense® Platinum Interior drywall throughout its construction.  Even though using Lafarge drywall may not take this home off the grid, by being produced with synthetic gypsum within 500 miles of the project site, it will help earn LEED credits for regional and recycled materials putting the homeowner and builder closer to their sustainability goals.
