Research Capabilities

Lafarge's North American research and development network consists of a technical center and product testing labs.  Key objectives for these include product development, driving continuous improvement in product quality, and optimizing manufacturing performance.  These operations are supported by the Lafarge Research Center in L'Isle d'Abeau, France (near Lyon), the first of its kind in the world.

Products and Process

Cement is a complex material with many uses.  As a hydraulic binder, it acts as a very sophisticated glue.  Lafarge researchers are working to develop cements suited to diverse customer needs while reducing the impact of these products on the environment.

The collaborative approach favored by Lafarge is exemplified by its partnerships with the world's largest research centers, graduate schools, institutions and international universities.  Lafarge, thus, is able to share its experience and knowledge while gaining new perspectives, particularly with regard to sustainable construction.
