Brookfield Cement Plant Celebrates 50 Year Milestone

Employees, customers, community reflect on impact of local building material

Brookfield, NS

Today, over a hundred stakeholders gathered at Lafarge Canada Inc.'s Brookfield, Nova Scotia Cement Plant to celebrate the past fifty years and look forward to the plant's continued role in building Atlantic Canada.

The anniversary is an important milestone marking fifty years of customer excellence, industrial performance and community partnership at the only cement plant in the Atlantic.  Cement is the critical binder in concrete which makes it such a durable building material.

Plant Manager, Scarth MacDonnell welcomed local speakers such as Joe Ballard, President of the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia to reflect on the plant's contribution to the built environment in the Atlantic.  In addition, Bob Taylor, Mayor of Colchester County and Larry Harrison, MLA (Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley) reinforced the economic role of the plant.

Lafarge Eastern Canada, CEO, Bruno Roux thanked employees for their commitment to health and safety noting that the site has just reached six years without a lost time accident.  He emphasized Lafarge's pride in having contributed to building so many homes, buildings and roads that Atlantic Canadians use every day.

The Nova Scotian government was represented by Deputy Premier, and Minister of Justice and Attorney General, the Honourable Diana C. Whalen.
