Lafarge’s Presque Isle Quarry Recognized for Environmental Efforts by WIildlife Habitat Council
Presque Isle, Mich. - February 24, 2016 - Lafarge North America (a member of LafargeHolcim) is pleased to announce that its Presque Isle Quarry in Michigan received two awards from the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) for its environmental and conservation efforts during the past year, including the 2015 Upland Management Award as well as a recertification of programs with WHC.
"We're proud of everyone here at Presque Isle for their efforts to maintain wildlife habitats at our site," said plant manager Allan Idalski. "These awards demonstrate our continuous efforts in conservation and environmental stewardship, and we look forward to ways we can improve our environment and continue to work with the Wildlife Habitat Council more in the future."
Presque Isle received a Finalist Distinction from the WHC and the National Wild Turkey Federation for the 2015 Upland Management Award for continued efforts in managing wildlife habitat programs. Presque Isle has created 15 different food plots in various locations at its site and volunteers from the quarry annually plant and seed as many as six areas to increase and maintain the habitat.
Presque Isle also received recertification for three years for continued efforts with the WHC's Wildlife at Work (WaW) and Corporate Lands for Learning (CLL) programs. The recertification of LafargeHolcim's programs with WHC allows the company to continue making a positive step toward protecting the environment and encouraging biodiversity through community outreach and volunteerism.
The WHC works to conserve and manage habitats on corporate lands through partnerships and educational opportunities. Since 2008, LafargeHolcim has been working with WHC to restore and preserve habitats where they operate through projects that promote the diversity of native plants and animals.
